Tips for Keeping Your Home Comfortable in the Summer

Blasting the A/C isn’t the only way to stay cool in the heat of a Texas summer. Nothing against air conditioning; we want to run it. However, there are additional tips for keeping your home comfortable in the summer to help lower the temperature in your home and not overwork the A/C.

Cover the Windows

It’s lovely to look outside and see the birds chirping and the flowers blooming in summer. Unfortunately, when we do that during the day, the sun is shining its warm rays into our homes—and the A/C doesn’t get a break.

Blinds, shades, and curtains are your windows’ best friend in the summer. Keep them closed in the heat of the day to help shade the inside of your home.

Run the Whole House Fan

Did you know when your fan shuts off and back on again several times a day it’s wasting energy? Rather than using the energy to continually start back up again, allow your fan to run on the continual setting.

This not only saves energy but keeps the air circulating in your home. So, when the A/C kicks off, that cool air keeps moving rather than becoming stagnant. It cuts down on how often the air conditioning needs to run and keeps the house feeling cool.

Ceiling Fans

Ceiling fans are perfect to hang above a bed—or to have anywhere else in the house. They keep air circulating and provide a nice, light breeze. Choosing the right ceiling fan can be a beautiful addition to a room.

Be sure to have the blades spinning counterclockwise in the summer to create a cool breeze.

Seal Gaps

Just as cold drafts come through window and door gaps in the winter, so does the heat in the summer.

Check all doors and windows for gaps that need sealing.

Listen To the Crickets at Night

Okay, maybe you’re in the city where crickets aren’t normally found. Still, enjoy the cool air of summer nights by allowing a little in when the sun goes down.

Just be sure to close your windows early in the morning before the heat of the day comes to visit.

In conclusion, enjoy the lazy days of summer while taking advantage of your A/C and using few tips for keeping your home comfortable in the summer.
